Michelangelo carved the Pietà from Carrara marble when he was twenty-three. Fabio Bordi spent months recreating it in the same stone, hand-cutting hundreds of tesserae across a range of natural tonalities from white to deep grey, rebuilding every shadow and every fold through the ancient technique of Roman micro mosaic. A work of extraordinary patience, and one that will endure for centuries.
Materials: Polychrome Carrara marble micro mosaic tesserae, ranging from white to deep grey.
Dimensions: 80 x 66 cm.
Handcrafted by Fabio Bordi, Rome, Italy.
