Stefano Paravani's father opened his bottega in via del Teatro Valle in 1945, making baskets for florists and bakers. For nearly twenty-five years that was the work, then slowly the chairs and sofas came.
Stefano began working alongside his father in 1980, learning by hand and by mistake, one wasted cane at a time. In 1997 he took over the bottega and has kept it open ever since, arriving before eight every morning and working until evening, weaving the same materials with the same patience his father taught him.
His bottega is one of the last of its kind in Rome. He did not choose this work to be rare. He chose it because it was his father's, and his father's craft was worth continuing.
Virentina is the official and authorised digital channel for the online sale of Stefano Paravani's works. Every piece is sourced directly from his Rome atelier and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artisan.
